The Crew

Four men. Three decades of friendship. One 5-day weekend ahead. Long enough to do real damage, short enough that nobody's wife has filed a missing-persons report. What follows is the lineup.

No. 01 · The Loudmouth

Rich

Built This Site · Plot Hatcher

Husband. Father. Builder of overengineered trip-planning websites for what could have been a group text. The loudest voice at the table, the last one standing at the bar, and the reason somebody behind us politely turns around. Says the thing the rest of us were thinking but had the sense not to say out loud. Drinks like it's a competitive sport.

Lives in

Likely to
Befriend the bartender by minute four
Unlikely to
Read the wine list quietly
No. 02 · The Mensch

Derrick

Lightweight · Wings-with-Cutlery

Husband to Teresa, dad to Chloe and Christopher, coach to half of southern Ontario's under-12 baseball league. Will remember your anniversary, your dog's name, and your kid's school play. Generous to a fault, fastidious about everything, and somehow still finds time to be a better friend than the rest of us deserve. The catch: eats chicken wings with a knife and fork like a Victorian widow, gets visibly tipsy at dram three, and texts Teresa from every single restaurant. We love him for it. We will also not stop bringing it up.

Lives in

Likely to
Ask if there's a quieter table
Unlikely to
Order the third whisky
No. 03 · The Disciple

Mike

Scotch Priest · Bloat Truther

The quiet one. Worships scotch with the reverence most reserve for religion, then sips two and goes home. Refuses beer on the grounds that it "makes him bloated" — the same lie for fifteen years. Should marry Karen. We have made this clear, repeatedly. He gets evasive when pushed. Lives in Ajax — which we treat as a moral failing, particularly given how much he loves what the city has to offer. Works in IT, which is why we all text him at 11pm asking why our printers aren't working.

Lives in
Ajax. Still processing it.
Likely to
Order the rarest dram on the menu
Unlikely to
Put a ring on it
No. 04 · The Sniper

Vince

Acerbic · Hypebeast · Roast King

Husband to Theresa, dad to Brandon and Audrey. Sharp-tongued in a way the rest of us aren't — the insult lands once, quietly, and the silence finishes the job. Drives a nicer car than he needs. Wears jackets we'd have to look up. Hypebeast tendencies, which we mock and quietly envy in equal measure. Has, against all odds, achieved actual work-life balance. The roast king of the group. If he hasn't come for you yet, just wait — he's saving it.

Home Base · 26A Rutland Square

The Place

A Striking Georgian, West End

An ultra-luxe base, three minutes from the first cocktail.

3Bedrooms
3.5Bathrooms
4.9★ · 352 Reviews
10Yrs Hosted

Three bedrooms, three-and-a-half bathrooms, and a kitchen Rich is contractually obligated to use exactly once. The Airbnb sits in Rutland Square — Georgian, West End, the kind of address where the front door makes you feel briefly important.

Clean lines, soft greys, hotel-standard linens. A super-king with ensuite for the lucky bastard who calls the master first. A double for whoever loses. Twins-or-king for the last two — sort it out between yourselves like adults. Ten years of five-star hosting on the books. Try not to get the £250 damage deposit deducted on night one, Derrick.

Two flights of stairs inside, no lift. Pack like you're going to Edinburgh for five days, not moving in.

  • Hey Palu cocktail bar3 min walk
  • Johnnie Walker · Princes Street4 min walk
  • Timberyard restaurant6 min walk
  • Edinburgh Castle14 min walk
  • West End tram (to airport)2 min walk
Section V · Twenty Restaurants · Seven Stars

The Dinners

Twenty restaurants. Seven Michelin stars between them. Each of you ranks your top four — the math sorts the rest. Vote thoughtfully; your fourth-place pick is somebody else's first, and we're not eating at TGI Friday's.

How it works. Drag a restaurant card onto your voting panel — 1st gets 4 points, 2nd gets 3, 3rd gets 2, 4th gets 1. Drag between slots to reorder. The leaderboard updates live. On mobile: tap a card, then tap a slot.

Section VI · Twenty Distilleries · One Private Driver

The Scotch

Twenty distilleries within driving distance, two walkable from the flat. We've booked a private driver, which means the designated-driver argument is officially dead — everyone drinks. Each of you ranks your top four; the top picks become the route.

Private driver booked. Drive times shown are from the Airbnb. Two of these (Holyrood, Johnnie Walker, and the Scotch Whisky Experience) are walking distance — no driver needed. The rest are scattered across the Lowlands, Highlands, Fife, and Speyside. Speyside is a long day. Speyside is also where Glenfarclas, Macallan, and Glenfiddich live. Choose accordingly.

Section VII · Twenty Bars · The World's #1 Among Them

The Bars

Twenty cocktail bars, whisky temples, and pubs. Panda & Sons was named the actual #1 bar in the world by The Spirited Awards in 2025 — we are absolutely going there. The rest are your tactical decisions. Rank your top four.

Strategy. Most of these are walkable from the flat. A few are cab-only (Sheep Heid, Nauticus, El Castillo) and worth the ride for what they are. Panda & Sons books up — make a reservation now regardless of voting. The leaderboard tells us where the consensus night-out anchors.

Section VIII · Three Locked-In · Fourteen Optional

The Activities

Three are locked in — they're non-negotiable Edinburgh experiences. The remaining fourteen are optional, ranging from in-city quick-hits to full-day Highland adventures. Rank your top four optional picks; the math sorts the rest.

The Mandatory Three. Edinburgh Castle, the Royal Mile walk, and Arthur's Seat. You're not missing these. Photos will be taken. Calves will burn. Show below.

Section IX · Eight Morning Spots · No Voting Required

The Coffee

No voting on coffee. Coffee is not a democracy. These eight spots are the morning answer — specialty espresso, world-class pastries, the city's best brunch. Tap a card for hours, address, and a one-tap link to Google Maps.

Strategy. Williams & Johnson and The Pantry are full sit-downs. Lannan is a 30-minute queue but worth it for one morning. Cairngorm and Fortitude are the espresso-nerd picks. Project Coffee opens at 7am — the earliest on the list and useful for driver-day mornings.
Section X · The Booking Tracker · Who Books What

The Bookings

The tracker that keeps us out of trouble. Once voting settles, top picks auto-populate here as needing reservations. Assign each one to a traveller, mark when it's confirmed, and stop reading group chats trying to figure out who booked The Kitchin.

How it works. Top-voted dinners and distilleries appear here automatically (highest priority first). Click status pills to update. Click a name to assign. The list rebuilds every time anyone votes — so this is the live job sheet.

Section XI · The Shared Notepad · Don't Forget

The Notes

The shared notepad. Things to remember, requests for the group, addresses to look up, lessons learned the hard way. Persists across reloads. Visible to all four of you (if Firebase is wired up).

Posting as:
No notes yet
Be the first to post. Reservation confirmation codes, the bottle of bourbon Mike's bringing, what time the cab is.
Section XII · The Five-Day Plan · Auto-Built From Voting

The Itinerary

The point of the whole site. Five days, auto-assembled from the top-voted picks across Dinners, Scotch, Bars, and Activities. Updates live as voting continues. Click any slot to see details. This is the document we print and bring on the trip.

How it builds. Mandatory activities (Edinburgh Castle, Royal Mile, Arthur's Seat) are locked in. Friday is the driver day — top-voted distilleries. Each evening pairs the top-voted dinner with a top-voted bar. As voting continues, this list re-sorts. Use the regenerate button to redraw it.
